Student Travel Award

We are rolling awardees over who were accepted for the postponed 2021 meeting so we are not accepting new student travel applications at this time but any students wishing to sign up will be eligible for consideration of a poster presentation award.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we are pleased to advise that we will offer a limited number of student travel awards towards participation at the Symposium on Hurricane Risk in a Changing Climate (June 7-11, 2020, at the Baker's Cay Resort in Key Largo, Florida). Presentations by students will be via poster only.

The main objective of the Symposium is to foster communication between scientists, engineers, and practitioners to increase understanding of and find improved ways to deal with tropical cyclone risks. This symposium differs from traditional conferences in allotting more time for each talk and for discussion, so as to provide deeper examinations of the topics. All presentations will be via plenary and poster sessions. Further discussions will take place over daily organized group lunches and welcome and farewell dinners.

Students should submit an abstract by November 15th, 2019 and awardees will be notified by December 5th, 2019. Please note that awardees will be notified and the award committee will directly put the award amount towards the registration fee which includes hotel and may offset some of your other conference fees. The award funds are contingent on full participation.

There will be additional awards given out at the Summit which will largely depend on the quality and relevance of the poster. Please go to Abstract Submission.

Please note you will need a letter of application for the award (up to 1 page max) and a letter of recommendation from your advisor noting that you will have a piece of work completed by the conference date which is ready to present. The application and recommendation letter should also discuss the relevance of your work to the theme of the symposium.
